This coleslaw adds two unique ingredients to the classic recipe…Miso Heat & Mushroom Extract Powder! The outcome yields a spicy umami side salad that’s sugar-free and balances flavors flawlessly.
A friend of mine brought a similar ad hoc recipe to a potluck Cameron and I hosted last year. We loved the contribution so much that I had to write down a rendition of it and share.
Unique Ingredients:
MisoHeat is an amazing chili paste made locally in Denver that you can buy here. Use it in another appetizer recipe of mine that’s always a crowd pleaser, Miso Stuffed Shiitakes.
Mushroom Extract Powders are natural extract powders made from gourmet mushrooms. They offer various health benefits and add a nice umami flavor to recipes. I chose Colorado Cultures Lion’s Mane Extract Powder for this because of Lion’s Mane’s known anti-inflammatory properties and mental clarity boosts. Colorado Cultures offers a few different organic mushroom powders worth checking out on their website depending on what health benefits you’re personally seeking.
Kewpie Mayo is a Japanese brand of mayonnaise that you can find in the Asian aisle of grocery stores. It is both creamy and tangy and fits perfectly in this recipe.
Enjoy!
