This calming cannabis-infused honey reduces pain, relieves stress & is easily substituted in any recipe! It’s AIP, Paleo & Top 8 friendly.
Canna Honey is precisely what it sounds like, cannabis-infused honey. It’s an alternative (and may I say delightful) way to ingest marijuana without having to inhale smoke into your lungs. The first step of the process is called decarboxylation (“decarbing”) which heats the cannabis to activate the cannabinoids within its buds, trim, leaves, or kief. This is what will make you feel buzzed. Without this step, you’re simply just adding plant matter to the honey and you won’t feel high! After the marijuana has been decarbed, it’s wrapped into a cheesecloth and combined with honey in a mason jar. Then it cooks in a crockpot submerged in water on low for 8 hours. The outcome is honey that can be eaten alone or substituted in any recipe! It’s a safe way to enjoy a little buzz from a healthy, all-natural sweetener.
Equipment
You’ll need the following to successfully make Canna Honey:
Baking Pan to decarboxylate the marijuana.
Parchment Paper to prevent the marijuana trimmings from sticking to the baking pan.
1 ½ Cup Glass Jar with an airtight lid to hold the honey and weed.
Cheesecloth to hold your decarbed cannabis trimmings.
Thread to tie off cheesecloth (pick one made of natural fibers since this will be slow cooking in the honey too!)
Crockpot that’s big enough for the jar you use.
Dish Towel placed as a buffer between the glass jar and crockpot bottom.
Tweezers to remove the trimmings bag from the honey.
1 ½ Cup Glass Jar with an airtight lid for permanent storage.
Ingredients
- ½ oz – 1 oz cannabis trimmings
- 1 cup honey
- Water to submerge glass jar in crockpot
Instructions
- The first step of making canna honey is called decarboxylation (“decarbing”). Without this, you’re simply adding plant matter to honey and you won’t feel high! To decarb, preheat your oven to 240F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper then spread your cannabis trimmings in a thin layer on top. Bake for 40-60 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Once the trimmings are decarbed, lay out a piece of cheesecloth and put them on top. Fold the cheesecloth and tie off the corners with a string. Trim off any excess cloth or string to form a small bag. Add the bag to the glass jar then pour the honey on top.
- Place a folded dishtowel on the bottom of the crockpot and put the jar on top of it. Fill the pot until the jar is ¾ submerged in the water. Cover and set the slow cooker to low (200F).
- Cook the honey for 8 hours. Slightly shake the jar every couple of hours to help decrease any built-up pressure.
- With oven mitts, carefully remove the jar from the slow cooker. Using tweezers, remove the trimmings bag and strain the honey from the bag into a new jar. Once the rest of the honey cools more, transfer to the new jar as well.
- Store in a cool, dark place (50-70F).
Hint: Parchment paper is a must on the baking pan as marijuana leaves a sticky residue that is difficult to clean afterward.
Storage
Honey will keep for years if stored in an airtight jar and kept in a cool, dark place between 50-70F.
Top tip
THC strains will produce a stereotypical high after ingesting the honey whereas CBD will foster more of an overall relaxed feeling.

- Parchment paper is a must on the baking pan as marijuana leaves a sticky residue that is difficult to clean afterward.
- You do not want the water to be boiling while cooking honey in the crockpot.
- You can control how strong the honey is by changing the honey to cannabis trimmings ratio.
